Depford Pink and Hoverfly....

While I was photographing yesterdays batch of black eyed susans I found this lone depford pink growing among them. To take the picture I manuevered my camera so the out of focus black eyed susans would be my background. I figured the yellow would offset the pink nicely. While I was set up; the hoverfly landed on the pink and posed for me, I got a bunch of pics and this was my favorite. Yes, my camera was on a tripod and I did use my foil relfector.

I have really enjoyed this series of photos. It is true so many tend to overlook these common everyday type flowers. I look forward to seeing more.

Hello John

A lovely shot of the beautiful Depford Pink...with a hover fly for company! Another flower on my wish list is the related Cheddar Pink, a very rare flower only found in the Cheddar Gorge in Somerset. Both the Depford Pink and the Cheddar Pink are endangered here and are protected by law. How do you do for orchids in Maine?

Best wishes, Adrian

Wow...how amazing to even think of doing all that, much less doing it so well! That really is a great shot and I can see why you are proud of it. The hoverfly really stands out as well as the flower.

Great job, John. So many stunning flowers.. this could go on until fall, then there is a whole new group of leaves out there also.. (wonderful job,) and the yellow does accent the pink very well

John, this photo is so outstanding that I called Gus to come and see it. We are both very impressed. (Gus says envious!) Did you use a macro lens to get that shot? We don't have one yet but it's next on our list. Gus use to take great macro shots with the Nikon FG35mm we used to use before digital. Gus wants to know what kind of camera you have.
