Very sweet John. I just love the nuthatch and chickadee too. Glad the hawk was unsuccessful. Any pictures of him yet? Someday I bet! I'll be getting the Carolina chickadee here, no black-capped!
What a wonderful visitor! I think I will come steal him :-) It's been so cool and rainy here, our yard looks so overgrown. It seems like in spring it needs mowing constantly.
I really did enjoy your chipmunk photo. My company of chipmunks have popped out of their underground homes several times on the warmest of days. Otherwise I won't see them as they labored all year, last year, to get enough food to last them over winter.
I take a lot of photos and all are in my backyard here in the town where I live in Ohio. So my selection of wildlife is limited. Still, you can see what I photograph at My Birds Blog.
My books are hot off the presses at Blurb! Take a sneak peek and place your order if you're so inclined by clicking on the cover photo above. An eBook version for download to your iPad or iPhone is now available in the iTunes store.
I live in Lewiston, Maine and have for most of my life. I've always had an interest in nature; as a kid I read books by Edwin Way Teal, Rachael Carson, among others, and I used to love studying the Golden Nature Guides. When I got into photography it was natural for me to take pictures of the natural world. A few years ago I got into kayaking and that allowed me to get to places I would never be able to by hiking and of course this gives me more photography oppurtunities. I realized years ago you don't have to travel to exotic locations to get good photographs. I have to admit I'm lucky to be living in a beautiful state with a lot of natural diversity, but I've taken good pictures right in my own back yard and neighborhood.

Cool, I have a hard time getting these little guys to sit still! Perfect chipmunk photo.
as distractions go, that is not a particularly bad one ;-)

We're getting into an old-cat cycle, so maybe the chipmunks will come back. I love to watch them in our rock walls.
Maybe he was looking for a handout? :)
