She's a Meany....

A couple of weeks ago I noticed a hummingbird by my red tulips so I decided to put out a feeder to see if it would come to it. Within a couple of days I had a male and a female visiting. I took this photo over the weekend and it's the first time in my life I've ever tried to photograph a hummingbird. This female will come and feed then go land in a tree to keep watch. As soon as the male shows up she chases him off. I'm going to experiment with high speed flash to see if I can get some shots of the wings frozen in place, although I do like the wings being blurred in this picture.

that is a great photo. We have a hummingbird that shows up around five every evening. I haven't seen her this year but we don't have our red flowers out yet. You have inspired me to get some soon.

Wow this shot is really wonderful! Keep the feeder up and you will have a great summer. They are quite the aggressive bunch and will just delight you with their antics. There's always room for more than one feeder and if you wear a red hat you might get really close up and personal!! Ha Ha!

Wonderful shot! Sounds like the hummingbirds at my feeder. I can't tell the difference between the male and female. I was thinking it was the male in my case. It was one of those ruby chested ones but it was a meany too.

The wings look lovely in this! They are both fun and frustrating to photograph. I love when they sit in the tree and watch or groom.
