Seeing Red...

I know this photo isn't that great but it's the first cardinal I've ever photographed so I had to post it. I actually took it through my bedroom window this morning. I've noticed this male and a female coming to my feeder right at dusk everyday, the lighting is way too low to take photos at that time of day. We had a 16 inch snowstorm yesterday and I had just come in from snowblowing the driveway this A.M. and when I looked out of the window the male was at the feeder. The female wasn't around but one thing I've learned about these two is that they are extremely skittish so I'm glad I was able to get this picture. You can see him looking at the window, I was sticking my lens through the blinds. My goal now is to get a better shot.

Good capture, John! Are cardinals rare in your area? I've seen some bullfinches here recently which are v-e-r-y rare but wasn't able to capture any.

Well congrats John!! I like to srpead black oil sunflower seed on the ground too, the cardinals will take it from there as well. It's funny because up north a friend of mine in town had 20 cardinals at a time and I would have just a couple every now and then. Hey!! We have the same weather! Kids have been out of school for a week! hahaha Snow is not melting quick enough for me. We even went snowshoeing in Alabama!! hahaha!

Wonderful! They like to feed on the ground or a tray or a deck railing, so if you leave some sunflower seeds in a place where you can get a good photograph...maybe near a bush they can hide in....you'll get more photos! They are camera shy, but they become very regular in their habits and love early morning and dusk. I didn't realize you were posting again and will stop by more often :-)
