Red Squirrel...

While I was photographing the chickadees the other day I noticed a squirrel running across the yard holding something. It climbed a short way up a tree and it turned out it had a pine cone. I was only able to snap off a couple of shots before it finished digging seeds out of the pine cone and scampered to the top of the tree.

This is great! I've never seen a squirrel eating a pinecone. Those little Grey Squirrels are cute with their white bellies, and much smaller than my big Fox Squirrel.

You do have to be quick to capture a photo of a wild critter, don't you?

I'm not fast enough. By the time I get my camera up to my face, find my subject in the frame, and focus, they're long gone. They either have to be dead or asleep for me to get a good shot.

Case in point. My all-time favourite photo that I took is of a raccoon sleeping in an old bird's nest outside my window. It was magical. My 15 minutes of fame, all used up. ;o)

I'm glad you are having good luck with your feeder....I think "if you feed them, they will come."

I think the red squirrel is a handsome fellow - neat shot to capture him eating seeds out of a pinecone!
