Otter and Moose Video....

I recently returned to Spencer Pond Camps for a five-day stay. I didn't take many photos or shoot much video on this trip. However, on my last evening, I ventured out for a paddle around the pond and was lucky enough to encounter a curious otter and a moose. The otter didn't stay around very long but I was able to get a few short clips of it checking me out. Below is a screen grab from the video. About twenty minutes later I came upon the moose. It was about 100 feet from shore and I could tell it was really bothered by the mosquitoes. In some of the clips, you can see how thick the mosquitoes were around it. You gotta feel bad for them, they don't have the ability to apply bug repellent as we do. Click here to check out the video: https://youtu.be/M5k9XMKTHqI

Spencer Pond Camps Video, Part II.......

In the previous post I included a link to part one of the video to my trip to Spencer Pond Camps last summer. I finally got around to editing part two which can be seen HERE. The above photo is a screen grab from video, part two.

No Photo But.....

I haven’t taken many photos this summer but I went kayaking on Merrymeeting Bay while I was on vacation back in June. I brought my video camera with me and got the video edited and posted to Youtube the other day. Check it out here: Kayaking on Merrymeeting Bay.

Little Whaleboat Island...

Last weekend Mike Brousseau (Maine Through The Lens) posted photos from a kayaking trip we took to Little Whaleboat Island in Harpswell. Today I'm posting some of my photos from the same trip, it's an example of how you can have two photographers taking pictures of the same thing but they come away with different pictures.

Early Morning Kayaking...

Here's a shot I took of the kayaks before a morning of paddling. These are my favorite paddling conditions, flat water and no wind and a slight mist hanging over the water. It was taken with my point and shoot and actually appeared on a magazine cover a few years ago.

Foggy Paddle...

I took these photos from my kayak on an extremely foggy morning. I didn't have my GPS with me at the time so I just kept the bright part of the sky to my back and headed across the river. The conditions were white out. When I finally made it across I was about three hundred yards down from where I thought I would end up. If I wouldn't have kept the bright part of the sky, or where the sun was coming up, to my back I probably would've just paddled around in circles. In conditions like this, even in a familiar location, it's a good idea to have a compass or GPS. What I like about the second photo is you can't tell where the water ends and the sky begins.

Sunset Paddle...

Here's another picture I took at the kayaking symposium a few years ago. It was a beautiful sunset but later that evening it poured.

I just found out about a web based program from Adobe called Photoshop Express, it's an online photo editing software. You can set up a gallery, fix up photos for MySpace, Facebook or even your blog. Kayaking Photos...

The top photo was taken while attending a kayaking symposium in Castine, Maine and the bottom one was taken on the Androscoggin River in Greene. It'll be a while but I'm looking forward to getting back in the kayak this year and doing some paddling.
