I took this photo on New year's day in my backyard during a snow storm. I have three titmice coming to the feeder this year and they don't seem as skittish as the one's that visited last year.

- I live in Lewiston, Maine and have for most of my life. I've always had an interest in nature; as a kid I read books by Edwin Way Teal, Rachael Carson, among others, and I used to love studying the Golden Nature Guides. When I got into photography it was natural for me to take pictures of the natural world. A few years ago I got into kayaking and that allowed me to get to places I would never be able to by hiking and of course this gives me more photography oppurtunities. I realized years ago you don't have to travel to exotic locations to get good photographs. I have to admit I'm lucky to be living in a beautiful state with a lot of natural diversity, but I've taken good pictures right in my own back yard and neighborhood.

Great shot! I always find mine pretty friendly, they just move too fast sometimes when I want a photo. I've got about the same number. I wonder if they only like to hang out in small groups.
They really are cute birds John. I never had them in my NY home but here my woods and yard is full of them! They look in the windows when the feeders are empty!!

The titmice are whistling their mating call right now. In a garden where I Weed For Dollars, there is a family and new ones from previous years just whistling up a storm. It's slightly annoying, actually! They do repond when I whistle back, too! Now WHO'S annoying,huh? Nice shot, John
