Blue Hour Cliffs....

I recently took a day trip to Acadia NP. The purpose was to photograph these cliffs with the golden light of the setting sun hitting them. Unfortunately clouds moved in, blocking the sun when the light would've been at its best. I decided to wait around till blue hour and got this image. I ended up walking the trail back to the vehicle in the dark.

Another From The Archives...

I went through my archives the other day and found this image I took during February of 2016. There was a sodium vapor street lamp behind me which cast a very orange glow to the lighthouse, I tried to get rid of the orange in Photoshop but didn't have any luck so I decided to convert to black and white. I'm glad I did because I think this version looks pretty good. I used Silver Effects Pro to convert and it did a real nice job of bringing out the Milky Way. It shows up more in this version than the color. The one thing I remember about this shoot was how cold it was, 10 below zero Fahrenheit, it was the first time my camera battery went dead because of the temperature.

Moxie Bald Evening....

This is another image from the hike I took on Moxie Bald Mountain earlier this month. As I mentioned in my first Moxie Bald post I shot a video of the hike and I got it uploaded to Youtube and it can be viewed here.

Moosehead Lake Sunset....

I just spent the last five days camping on the northern edge of Moosehead Lake at Seboomook Wilderness Campground. Wednesday it rained all day but the skies cleared up enough for this spectacular sunset. The geese swimming by was a stroke of luck.

This past weekend I went on a backpacking trip to Moxie Bald Mountain in northern Maine. I've done plenty of hiking but this was my first overnighter. The original intent was to spend the night in a tent and do some astrophotography, unfortunately clouds moved in and prevented clear skies so photographing the Milky Way didn't happen. The first photo in this series was taken from atop Moxie Bald when I first got to the summit. The second photo is from the top of North Peak the following morning, the lake in the distance is Moxie Pond. Photo number three was also taken from North Peak looking back at Moxie Bald Mountain. One unexpected surprise was the abundant blueberries on the top of both mountains, especially the North Peak. All photos taken with my phone. I also shot a video of the trip and I'll be posting that on Youtube soon.

Reid State Park Milky Way....

Here's an image from a while back taken at Reid State Park. It's a blend of two separate images. The sky taken at f2.8, 30 seconds and the foreground taken at f2.8 and an 8 minute exposure. The foreground and background were then blended in Photoshop.

Section Hiking the Appalachian Trail....

While on vacation last week I hiked a section of the Appalachian Trail to the top of West Bald Pate peak in Newry. In the distance of this photograph is East Bald Pate peak. The white blaze on the rock denotes the Appalchian Trail. For some trivia, there are 165,000 such blazes between Springer Mountain in Georgia to Mt. Katahdin in Maine. I filmed a video of the hike and it can be viewed by clicking this link: Baldpate hike.
