Early Bluebird Visit...

I had a couple of visitors to an old nest box in my yard a couple days ago. They each took a turn checking the interior, I hope they decide to use it for nesting later in the spring.

A few birds showed up in my yard the other day during a snow storm. I was surprised to see the bluebirds because I thought they migrated south for the winter. A couple of them were checking out the the nest box even though they won't be nesting around here for a few months.

This female Downy woodpecker came to visit my suet feeder but landed on a nearby tree before going to the suet.

3 Seconds to React....

This is my favorite photo I took in 2015. I made it last February and didn't post it till now because I saved it as one of my calendar exclusives. The two chickadees posed together on this fallen deer antler for maybe three seconds before the top one flew off.

Machias Seal Island.....

Here are some of the puffin photos I took during last months vacation. This actually made the seventh time I've been on the island, the first time being back in the 80's. The downeast area has a lot to offer in the way of photography so puffins are not the only attraction. The birds were still incubating the eggs so if I do this trip again I'll go later in the season. The puffins will be feeding the young and there's a better chance of getting photos of the adults with fish in their bills.

Younsters are Hungry...

Every year I have birds nesting in the nest box I built. I’ve had tree swallows nesting in it but most of the time it’s chickadees. This year a pair of titmice took up residence. Right now they are actively feeding their young. I took this photo a couple of days ago as the adult paused before going into the box to feed the little ones. I’m loving the 7D Mark II.

Different Perspective....

We've all seen many photos of loons, usually taken from the side or head on, I've taken a lot myself. I have to say this is one of my favorites because of it's different and uncommon angle.

Baby Got Back...

Sometimes You Get Lucky....

This photo was taken from my kayak. When I took this image I had no idea water was dripping from the adults bill but I think it adds some interest to the picture.

Patience is Key......

Of all the birds that come to my feeder, the mourning dove is one of the most skittish, by sitting in my blind for a few hours, I was able to get a decent image.

Patience Pays Off....

I've decided to start posting on a more regular basis again on this blog, that being said, here's my first photo after a long hiatus. Chickadees are very abundant around here but you still need a lot of patience to get a good shot.
