The mourning doves have been coming to the feeder all winter but they're very cautious. They never come around while I'm outside, I usually hear them in the fir trees waiting for me to leave. Yesterday this one flew down from the trees and landed right in an open spot about thirty feet away, it really suprised me, it was the first time all winter one has come that close. I like the way the iridescent pink patch on its neck was showing up in the sun.

WOW! The light has to be just right to get the pink on the neck to show as good as your photo.
Excellent!
That is beautiful John, it's not often you can catch that with the eye.
I feel bad about the snow.
Fabulous colouring on that Dove John, great image.
Seems to me that before I moved out of New England for 20 years, they would clear out for the winter. Really nice to see the iridescence on the neck.
I noticed that pink patch right off...beautiful! I always think "dumb dove" when I see them, but they really are beautiful birds when you look more closely. The snow makes a nice background.
do all mourning doves have that pink patch on the neck...i just heard the cooing the last week and noticed a dove flying back and forth near my window, with straw and sticks in his mouth, he was adding to the nest i just seen under my air conditioner, i poked my head around to see where the bird put the twigs, and there was another dove in the nest, a large nest siting...is she laying eggs...
Its really very nice blog..
I just enjoyed..
Thanks for sharing information with us..
