Dark Eyed Junco...
I haven't taken many photos lately that's why it's been a while since I've updated the blog. I'm sick of winter. Once the weather warms up and the snow melts I'm sure I'll be reinspired and will be updating on a regular basis like in the past.
Hey John- My mother-in-law is visiting Ohio and we had a 70 degree day today! I can only imagine what a Maine winter is like- I've only experienced bits and pieces of one, not the whole long thing. Hope the warm temps head your way!
Your photos always amaze me John! Nice to see you again. I don't blame you one bit about being sick of it. All our snow melted but I just posted a picture from Feb 2nd so you wont feel much better when you see it. Sorry!
Glad to know that you are just in a winter funk and photo slump! We miss your photos :-) I've taken a hundred junco photos and never get one this clear.
We had a forlorn little junco wearing his little black executioner hood sitting on our front walk yesterday hoping to scrounge a few spruce seeds amid a spring storm that dumped 10 inches of snow.
My books are hot off the presses at Blurb! Take a sneak peek and place your order if you're so inclined by clicking on the cover photo above. An eBook version for download to your iPad or iPhone is now available in the iTunes store.
I live in Lewiston, Maine and have for most of my life. I've always had an interest in nature; as a kid I read books by Edwin Way Teal, Rachael Carson, among others, and I used to love studying the Golden Nature Guides. When I got into photography it was natural for me to take pictures of the natural world. A few years ago I got into kayaking and that allowed me to get to places I would never be able to by hiking and of course this gives me more photography oppurtunities. I realized years ago you don't have to travel to exotic locations to get good photographs. I have to admit I'm lucky to be living in a beautiful state with a lot of natural diversity, but I've taken good pictures right in my own back yard and neighborhood.

It is a wonder to me how these little birds survive winter, Don't their feet get cold?
Lovely shot.
I've noticed that you were hibernating.

John,
We all look forward to your amazing photos. Hope that spring comes to you soon.
Oh, John, I'm so done with winter and have been struggling to get out and look for shots myself.
Nice to see the Junco John. Don't worry pal, you're not the only one done with winter.

I love the little "snow-birds." Great shot of yours. I know what you mean about winter - and you have had a horrific one, haven't you?
Love the photo of the Junco!
I am getting tired of winter too. I had 30 RWBB and 4 Grackles stop by the feeders last week bringing a glimmer of hope that spring is coming soon.
