Loony Friday...
The top photos were taken last year on a real calm morning. There are a lot of summer homes and camps on this lake so the loons are used to boat traffic. On this particular morning I was the only person on the water, it was just the loons and me. At one point I had about a dozen loons surrounding me and I was able to get some headshots like in the first picture. The bottom photo was taken a couple of years ago on July 4th. Last year I didn't see any chicks so I don't think any loons were successful in raising young.

BEAUTIFUL.. Thanks so much for sharing these fantastic photographs with us all.. you sure know how to capture the beauty around you!
I love the spread winged one and the baby is so presious looking! I hope they are more successful this year and you get more photos.
Hi John,
My daughter Morgan is 10 now and has been birding with me for 5 years. She LOVES the loon mostly because of its eerie call. She got to hear one in the wild a few years ago on a field trip. Now we get out the Peterson CD just to hear the loon!
Hi John,
Loves those Loon shots. Fascinating eyes, that they have!
Thanks for stopping by.
Cheers, Klaus
P.s.: I relaxed the Spam protection somewhat, so you shouldn't have problems in the future.
Great blog! Wonderful photos!
How beautiful! I seem to see mostly the female loons. The males are gorgeous.
Ooh that top Loon photo is a real keeper my friend.
I love those! Especially the mother and baby...
Wow. I don't think I've ever seen 12 loons at one time. I always think of them as loner birds. Great photos--I think you've really captured the mystic beauty of these wonderful animals. It won't be too much longer before we hear their calls again, too!
John- Great shots, still waiting for a loon to land on Megan's in-laws pond when I'm out in the canoe with my camera!

John, thanks for visiting my blog, and I am also glad I ran into yours. Some very nice photos here...makes me feel like I am in Maine myself...
Cheers,

Absolutely stunning. I have always enjoyed the loon. In all of my fishing endeavors, it is the bird that fascinates me the most with it's character and its voice. You captured it well!
Your blog is beautiful.

I love loons! I've seen them on Wilson pond/lake in Wilton, ME, and at Arnold Brook Lake in Presque Isle. Where were these taken? Beautiful shots!
