Spring has Sprung...

The weather this week has been very spring like, the warmest temperatures of the season. As I write this I can hear a cardinal calling outside, I should put up a feeder so I can attract him to the backyard. With the warm weather I know it'll just be a matter of time before I'm taking photos like the ones above. These were taken at sunrise on two different occasions, the top butterfly is an American Copper and the bottom one is a Prairie Ringlet. Yes, I used my foil fill technique on both of these pictures.

Morning John!
And a beautiful morning it is!! The pictures are spectacular with the dew on the wings!! Seems like that would really weigh them down! I've seen the morning cloak already but it will be another month before some of my favorite butterflies come out! I'm planning a ride on the bike today..hope you get yours out!!

Great captures - with all the dew on them! Haven't seen them or their cousins this year yet.

Beautiful, John! I love the dew on them! No butterflies here yet, but it is 82°F/28°C here today, so it won't be long!

Do you know of the nature writing Bob Pyle? He's on a 50-state butterfly tour right now (there's a link to his journals on the Orion Magazine web site). I think he's going to be in Maine this summer.

I thought I left a comment here, but guess I didn't post it right. I like the symmetry of the two shots...very nice!

John, beautiful photos. I have no idea what a foil fill technique is though. I'm glad you do though!
