First Spring Flower...

Most folks don't really think of the pussywillow as a flower but that's what it is and usually the first one to appear in late winter. This was taken after a night of rain.

Rain Covered Pussywillow....

After a heavy night of rain I went out and took this photograph. As pussywillows develope they do attain a lot of color.

April Showers....

We've been getting a lot of rain lately, the sun is out right now but more rain is on the way later today. It rained Thursday night but it had stopped by Friday morning so I went out and photographed the droplet covered pussywillows. The yellowish background is actually dead grass that was on the ground. When you enlarged the photo you'll notice a squarish, bright spot on the dark area on the underside of the pussywillow. That's a reflection of my foil fill card adding light.

Chickadee....

Here's another photo from the other day, it's my favorite picture I've taken in 2009 so far. It's always my goal to do better.

Spring....?

I took this photo about an hour ago. Despite the snow and cold, it was snowing while I took this picture, these pussywillows prove that winter is slowly loosening it's grip here in Maine.

Colorful Pussywillow...

When people think of a pussywillow they think white and fuzzy but as they bloom they're quite colorful. The pussywillows in this area are not quite like this yet, the picture is from last year. I used my foil reflector on this photo, the sun was coming up on the right and I had the reflector on the left bouncing light onto the shaded side of the pussywillow.

Finally....A Sign of Spring!!!

I took a little walk around the neighborhood the other day and I finally saw my first sign of spring. Despite all the snow still on the ground and the cold temperatures, winter is slowly loosening its grip. I took these pussywillow photos about half an hour ago. While I was taking the pictures I heard some red wing black birds calling, for me thats another sign of spring, yay.
